I may not be me

If you get a strange message from me, an e-mail or an IM asking you to click a link, verify it's me first.

I'm working on a solution, but at I at least know the cause.

Side note, don't check your e-mail while you're visiting friends :P

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to you. I will keep that in mind. One thing I'd suggest is that you hop onto your IM and drop as many offline messages to as many people you talk to on a regular basis as possible warning them of this, especially those who do not read this journal.

I guess if you're going to use a firends computer again you'll just have to double-check that the autosaving of signin details is disabled and confirm with your friend that they are OK with this feature being disabled. If they want to have such features for their own convenience maybe suggest they set up a restricted guest agaount for friends where all of those such features are disabled. It still means you have to double-check eveyr session at the terminal, but at least if you disable it doing so won't affect your friends personal preferences.

No, the default is not to autosave credentials, but once "yes" is selected once the user is rarely prompted about it again. This is where it is a good idea to check browser settings on shared accounts and disable any autosaving enabled if permitted by the owner of the computer. This is where I suggested a separate guest account where the users could change whatever settings they wanted while on the computer.

Most of us aren't that didgent on our own computers at home so it can be easy to not think about such things elsewhere.
