Dreamwidth Question

In terms of cross-posting I understand that I can create a post in DW and set it to be cross-posted here, and that I can use an external client to post to both at the same, but is there any way I can write a post on LJ and have it cross-posted to DW? I'm sure that I'm either missing something really obvious, or that the answer is no ( Read more... )

I think it's going to be a no, I cannot find anything which says that you can make an LJ post and have it appear on DW, without copy/pasting or importing :s Think I'm going to have to just stick to backing LJ up every couple of months on DW, unless LJ stop that as well :S

I've no idea about the DW-LJ stuff.

But I noticed your music is Dark Crystal and I had to squee a little over that ;-)

Lol, I have just finished watching "Dark Crystal" for the first time ever, and I actually really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting to but it was kind of great :)

You can only cross-post an entry from DW to LJ, not the other way around. And yes, when you import entries from LJ to DW, it imports the whole lot each time, which is why it can sometimes take days to import when there's a lot of traffic on the servers.

I still prefer LJ too but I'm importing everything to DW every month or whenever I remember, just in case!

I think I'm going to go with importing things each month as well. When I get back home I think I'm going to have to ask on the comm whether people are for or against importing all of the current entries over to DW as well. We already have a handle set up over there so...

I'm just so not up for using a client. I like updating through LJ, and hopefully I will be updating more now :)

Can you import comms now? I know DW were talking about it. That would probably be a good decision to make if the option is there, tbh. The projected three-column LJ layout is so damn ugly, if that comes in without any overrides then I'm definitely leaving!

I've never used a client, I'm such a dinosaur LOL Yay for more updates though :D

The owner or moderator of a comm can import a full community from LJ to DW now. Original authors of posts retain full rights, but will only be able to access them to edit/remove them from DW if they sign in to DW with an open ID.

It would at the very least be a good way of backing up the comm. I am still paying for domain rental of the website, but I have no idea how to do anything with it, from an update to maintenance which is probably needed. In 2012 I'll try advertising for help with that as well.

Three-column LJ layout? What? That sounds hideous, how does it work?

My journal import did take 2 days to finish, but you can log out etc and it keeps chugging along. It imported everything in my journal, images, tags, comments etc It couldn't cope with all of my icons though, which is fair enough really.

There is a lot of traffic on DW at the moment, but if you restart your import and just forget about it, it should sort itself out. Plus they send a message to your DW Inbox when it has fully completed :)
