I agree completly. I think this is a non-starter as most of the people Ihave seen complaining that Hermione was OOC are H/Hr shippers who mis-read most of the characters behavior anyway. Noteably the particular breed of H/Hr shipper who also hate Ron. Well my impression is that Hermione was acting poorly for exactly the same reason that Ron was acting poorly (in HBP as well as in pervious books). That is fancying someone and not going about dealing with it properlyy compounded by jeliosy.
I did think that Harrys thought about the "depths that girls will sink too" was a bit rich (and chavinist) as Ron was only subjecting everyone to him and lavender because he was upset about Hermione kissing Krum.
Romance makes people stupid (sometimes). The nastyness over Harry beating her at potions though did shock me.
Yup...and then there's that whole fact that she created the characters and they're hers to play with as she likes...and it's not like people's personalities don't change over time anyway so even if she was acting differently than she had in the past doesn't mean it's not something she would now do given the current circumstances...I mean I know I act differently now than I did a few years ago...things happen that change the way we react to things...(e.g. a few years ago I wouldn't have even thought about asking a certain guy out, but a few weeks ago I did just that because I finally realized that he didn't have the balls to do it himself...of course he said no, but that's neither here nor there...)
I agree completely with the commentary on 'rabid shipping zealots', as I would name them. Ad hominem attacks on the opposition - tearing people down to make you look taller - is contemptible. And of course there are *much* better ways to prove H/Hr ... :-)
Have we seen in canon exactly what a life debt *means*? I've only noted their existence, but not seen one 'used' - called into play - 'executed'. If A owes B a life debt can B ask A to risk his life for B? Or does A say "look, I could kill you right now, but I won't, so the debt is discharged ... ... AVADA KEDAVA!". How's a life debt work anyway? Brad.
