things that make you go...wtf?

Remember that post yesterday, about wanting to resign from the human race? Maybe I'll just resign from fandom instead. It's no secret I'm a H/G shipper. Normally I'm a live and let live kinda gal. I don't really get involved in 'shipping debates. I can empathize with the fact that the H/Hr 'shippers are upset because their ship has been sunk. I ( Read more... )

(continuing from part 1; I hate things like character/word limits!)

8. At no point in that interview did Jo ridicule the H/Hr ship or shippers. She refused to use the word delusional and did not use any derogatory words about H/Hr 'shippers.

True enough. But she smirked, I think. Went along with them. Implied agreement. And certainly she could have acted to demur, dismiss their gloating derision, don't you think?

11. But I will say that I think some folks have a tendency to read into certain "symbols" something that isn't really there.

Quite agree. Just as there were H/G symbols - seeing Ginny from the train, Ginny catching the snitch from under Cho, etc, which all add to the H/G romance and make it more satisfying but didn't *prove* that the romance was inevitable and written in stone.

#13. What do you think of circular imagry as being significant to continuous movement and evolution in a friendship (as opposed to stagnation)?Good grief, people were actually making up theories like that? Jeeze. Just as well I haven't ( ... )

My comments were way to long to include here, so I've made a new post just for you. :)

Livejournal display/format comment madderbrad August 12 2005, 04:33:24 UTC
By the way, just my comment as one of your readers ... your livejournal display format really bugs me. I gather there's heaps of formats that one can adopt? On my browser - mozilla - fully half the width of the screen is taken up with your Dan & Bonnie 'Catching Butterflies' picture. Of the other half some space is taken up with a column reserved for the icons. As a result your entires are usually squeezed into a bit more than a third of the screen, and nested comments/conversations can get very narrow very fast.

And when a looooooong entry such as the one you've written today is displayed, it's somewhat onerous to scroll down and down and down when on other formats your article would be much wider and not take up a lot of mental effort just trying to decipher.

Just a comment from one of your readers, and maybe it's not like that for other people/browsers. Brad.

I'm sorry. I think most people probably read my journal on their own friends lists, which would be why they don't run into that problem. Just for you, I widened the content display by about 20%. Maybe that will help. :)

28-When Harry and Ron come upon Ginny and Dean kissing, there is a little girl who drops a bottle of toad spawn. Harry is then described as feeling sick and dizzy. Is this an effect of the toad spawn? Was that indeed toad spawn or something else? Or was that merely a reaction to Ginny and Dean?

The toad spawn didn't eve happen in the same physical place as Dean and Ginny kissing did it? It took me forever to figure out what in the hell they were even talking about because it was pathetically insignificant...I've read the book four times and this toad spawn dropping girl was still nothing more than an example of Ron's bad temper after he was told Hermione snogged Krum

It happened directly afterwards. It is yet another example of H/Hr's grasping at straws to prove that Harry was attracted to Ginny for unnatural reasons.

Exactly my point. Why can't they just accept things as they are?

I agree with you on pratically every point mentioned here. About the last question, just adding my 2... I can't find the "cents" button on my keybord. Anyway, having Krum pull Harry aside into the forest was an excuse for them to be alone, find Crouch, etc. As Harry and Krum don't have much to talk about besides Hermione and Quidditch, I imagine Hermione would have been the way to go (although I think there are some quidditch remarks stuck into that scene). I find this more coincidental than an "anvil sized hint".
