I really love travelling by train I have discovered. Especially short trips like to Philly, NYC and almost to Boston. I love being able to walk around, get a drink, etc as we travel. I love that I can get to the station 10 mins before the train is scheduled to leave and make it no problem. I love that I can see things as I go by. I hardly ever ( Read more... )

I'm totally with you. I've taken two especially momentus rides. From London to Lockerbie Scotland, and from Syracuse to Chicago. Really quite beautiful. I'm sorry that I haven't found an excuse to ride one in some time now.

I totally forgot about the European Train Travel. That was awesome - for Amsterdam to Munich and then to Berlin.

I've heard nothing but good things about rail travel. I'm wanting to take a trip at some point but haven't gotten around to the planning yet. Perhaps next year.

I remember finding all of these old B&W pictures of my mom & dad on train-trips going god knows where. It seemed like such a lax way to travel and ever since I've wanted to do train-trips throughout this country. I haven't actually done one yet but this post is inspiring to think about it more...

Don't take Amtrak, though...It will kill any sense of "romance" you might harbor for train travel. I hear ViaRail in Canada runs a restored 1940's train from Toronto to Vancouver, which sounds like fun...

Amtrak is who I took this AM. They aren't the greatest, but it's still nice.

My Aunt and Uncle recently did that restored railroad trip in Canada. I'll find out if it was worth it when I see them later on this month.
