[LAUGH IT UP, FUZZBALL YOSUKE. because quite suddenly, there is a fist punching its way out of that cake ... followed by an arm ... followed by a certain charioteer who is covered in cake bits and frosting. and she has murder in her expression as she materializes, spluttering, from what used to be a pretty nice-looking cake.

once fully emerged, she takes a deep breath and gives an ear-splitting, wordless shout:]

AUUUUUGGGHHHHH!!

[she wipes the gooey frosting out of her eyes and stares, her features fixed into a snarl, right at yosuke. she has just one thing to say.]

YOSUKE?!! WHAT THE HELL??!!!

[happy birthday, yosuke. .__.]

[brb, cracking up so hard in the corner.

someone may want to make sure she gets air at some point.]

[Yosuke leaps about a foot in the ear and gives a scream of terror. Think the scream he gave just before Chie TRAIL OF THE DRAGON'd him. That exact scream.]

Ch- ch- CHIE? WH-WHAT THE HELL?!

[staggering forward, attempting to shake off the coat of cake and sugar]

I asked you first, dammit! What the -

[aaand she slips on a spot of icing and hits the ground, hard.]

This is surreal, to say the least.

If anything, the weirdness of it, coupled with the normalacy of Chie yelling at Yosuke, makes it easier to get used to than hearing her voice on the network again. Souji is stepping forward to help her up after a moment of hesitation.]

Are you alright, Chie?

[GUESS WHAT CHIE IS KIND OF MAD and so she's going to grab a hunk of cake and chuck it at you, souji. ._.]

You!! I can't believe you let him talk you into this!

[her voice has that semi-hysterical edge to it that means she's on the verge of tears, too.]

[asdkasodjih DAMN IT he narrowly avoids the cake by ducking, shifting back to avoid further onslaught.]

We didn't do this, Chie. I promise. [Tentatively, he edges closer and extends his hand to her once more, as if trying to get close to a particularly dangerous beast.]

[ ... o.. h.. Nanako is pretty surprised by these developments - hey, she might have seen someone popping out of a cake once or twice on television, but this is for real - and then they're shouting.. ]

U-um.. [ She can't really do anything more than speak up in that weak voice. NOOOO FIGHTING, guys. ]

[aaaand it finally registers on chie's radar that there is a chiiiild in their midst. and not just any child.]

[someone better start 'splaining before chie's head explodes like that cake just did. :c]

[Yosuke doesn't react well to being shouted at. On his birthday. By Chie, who he is sure is a hallucination until Souji starts trying to talk to her. That, combined with Saki's laughter, sets him off.]

Why are you screaming at me?! I'm just as surprised as you! Jeez you nearly gave me freaking HEART ATTACK -!!

[Oh God. Don't tear up. Don't tear up. DON'T TEAR UP CHIE THAT'S NOT FAI-

NANAKO-CHAN? ET TU, NANAKO? THEN FALL YOSUKE.]

A-aw jeez...

[oh yeah. yosuke. chie's attention snaps back to the CLEAR OFFENDER in this situation, and she gathers another nearby handful of cake and chucks it his way, glaring.]

Heart attack, Yosuke?! DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO BREATHE INSIDE A CAKE??!

[LEADER VOICE GO.]

Yosuke didn't put you there.

[ohshit, leader voice. o__o]

Then what is going on?

[the almost-tears are back.]

[Twice now, he's had to explain this to Chie. he doesn't hesitate to do the same once again, though he leaves out adachi, and the fact she's been here before, for the time being.

He also leaves out the fact Yosuke was talking about girls popping out of cakes a few days ago, lest she exact her vengeance upon him.]

[chie listens carefully to souji as he explains, quietly taking in her new, non-cake surroundings, glancing from souji to yosuke and nanako and back again, and it's not until her gaze lands on saki that her expression softens and her eyes get a little wider. she murmurs, barely audible:]

... Senpai?

[and when souji finishes speaking, she knows he's not lying. he might be able to go along with a stupid prank of yosuke's, but he can't resurrect the dead.]
