a necessary mask?

once i had a heart-to-heart talk with one of my friends regarding masks.  the course of the discussion ended up as masks are indeed unnecessary.  why hide your true self if it does not benefit you at all?  if you are only fooling yourself and the other party?  if, in the long run, it only ruins your relationship to others, regardless of what level?

I believe that people wear masks because they are afraid that the people they want to be with wont accept them for who they really are. In work or in other simiilar situations where you want to fit in jsut to succeed. =)
