Writer's Block: Environmental Confession

Jun 26, 2009 22:35

I drink a lot of water- over a gallon a day.  However I only drink distilled water so I buy gallon jugs at the grocery store. It is terrible for the environment and I keep saying that I'll stop but I don't.

Recycle! But even with recycling, the amount of oil it takes to create the plastic and then ship the containers...oi!

I don't see how drinking water is bad for the environment, so it must be the plastic jugs, which could be recycled or repurposed, although how you could use that many jugs is beyond me. That's a lot of toilet brush holders, planters and scoops. It would be cheaper to get a filtration system for your faucets and use a couple of jugs to store and use the water. Less waste that way.

Btw, I am a friend of spikesleman and need your help. I've order her to submit The Princess and The Road to Damascus for publication by 5 p.m. EST on Friday or I'll do it for you. So, since you have a copy of the former, would you mind sending it to me so I can get it out? She's been sitting on those stories for too long and they need to circulate and be published. What do you think?

I know! Even though I recycle the gallon jugs, I know, KNOW that it would be better to get a filtration system. I keep telling myself to get a Brita pitcher or something.

But I like the taste of distilled water.

I think that she definitely needs to be published. What is with the Friday deadline? And why won't she publish her stuff?

Mary Ann has kept dithering with both stories for over two years. She needs a deadline and Friday gives her time to get it done. Without a deadline, she'll keep dithering and changing and editing and making excuses. Like most unpublished writers who know other writers who have been published, she has a huge case of insecurity. Her stuff isn't good enough, but it is. And I'm tired of waiting for her to get off the dime. She needs to do this, so I'm going to help her even if it means dragging her kicking and screaming toward publication. She has the worst case of dithering procrastination I've ever seen. Call it tough love. Call it being an obnoxious bully, but I believe in her. She's good. She needs a little -- all right, a BIG -- push out of the nest.
