Moving to Cincinnati

Feb 02, 2005 08:42

So I am seriously considering moving to Cincinnati in the late spring. I was just talking to a co-worker about it and she said that Cincinnati is even MORE conservative than Columbus. Is that possible? I like the city, but admittedly my experience is limited. I know the race relations are pretty tense. But not much else, any information would be ( Read more... )

race relations are not tense...that is just hype... however we are FAR more conservative than columbus...a lot of times I have to drive to Dayton or Columbus to be able to do certain things...on the lighter side you already have friends here..so that would make the transition easier...jsut don't let your job woes run you out of town..economically things are just as bad here...however GE where Becka and I work are still hiring...they have great benefits and you get discounts in lots of places for working here in cluding health clubs, cell phones, movies, amusement parks, and the like

Two words re: Cincinnati's conservative nature:
Larry Flynt.

Cincinnati proper has a lot of rules/laws around things that are just asinine.. mostly around nudity and gay rights. The gay rights issue was voted on last November (to abolish the discrimination Article - aka Article XII - put into place in 1992).

Cincinnati - I love it. I like Dayton a whole lot better, though.

I can't imagine anywhere being worse than Columbus. There are so many Bush supporters around here it is making me sick. But at least Bush didn't win in Franklin county. I'm still ashamed of this state for letting Bush win the election.

People in Columbus piss me off because they are always stairing at my husband and I when we go anywhere, especially stupid Easton shopping mall.

I hear you about Bush... The man is evil. Heck were in Ohio unfortunatly people are going to stare if you look significantly differnt. Even when I to to Sothern California from San Francisco, I would get looks. At this point in my life at 35, I don't attract as much attention. Work and such keeps my hair styles pretty mild, yet I havn't spent much time outside of the Short North.

Hi, you don't know me (I'm Jen), was just browsing through eviltenet 's journal and stumbled across a comment by you and was moved to warn you. Cincinnati sucks. I don't know all that much about Columbus, but in terms of people, Cincinnati is a bigoted asshole.

I know someone pointed out that Cincinnati recently repealed the law preventing Cincinnati from enacting a law protecting gays and lesbians, but I have to point out that the ONLY reason it was repealed was because the language was confusing. People who voted yes thought they were voting to keep the law when they were really voting yes to repeal it. (I'm really loving the irony there, too)

Cincinnati regularly engages in harassment and entrapment for places like the Hustler store. They censor everything they can get their little hands on and then some. I'd seriously reconsider. I know my husband and I want out of here asap.

Hi Jen,

Yes you are not the first person to warn me that Cincinnatie is seriously conservative and heaven knows that is the last thing I want. Also have been told that the economy isn't any better than it is here. So it's looking like I just realy need to try and get myself out and meeting people.

I'm always glad to try to help prevent another Cincinnati casualty. :)

Hope Columbus gets better for you.

Well in the mid west anyway, stay in Col. Cincy. sucks, raceism, bigotry, lack of art scean, very much a rock and beer town. And the weather is not much better. I know COl. is getting worse every day (with out MMFB dj'ing on Mondays at Skullys, and not much in the way of good clubs anyway) but its still has some good people in it.
