Nothing, actually. They go to the other universe, and that's it. It's really just like walking through a door, although... Time in one universe might be quicker than in the other universe.

A lot of people mentioned having gone to another universe. Maybe, if they were lucky, they would have gotten out of Wonderland. And if not, they still got to go somewhere else for a while.

But at the same time, it could have dumped you somewhere horrible. Or it could have killed you. I don't know.
