A question that's probably common...

I have the Scarlet Pimpernel (1935) and the Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) movies and while I've thoroughly enjoyed them I was wondering if there were other adaptations that someone could please recommend. In the same breath, are there any adaptations I should avoid like the plague (the real plague, not the fake plague in the back of the cart ( Read more... )

"(the real plague, not the fake plague in the back of the cart with the grandson)"

I like that :)

I wish I had other versions to recommend, but blakeneymanor.com probably has them. Also, check IMDB.com for other sources.

I would avoid the 1999 A&E version...because I was recommended (by many, many people) to avoid it like the very real plague. xD I haven't seen it, but I read a number of detailed reviews/summaries and if they've all been accurate, I would agree with those who told me to avoid it. >.>

The Richard Grant one? Yeah I only saw bits and pieces of it but it never interested me at all.

If I were to cast Percy Blakeney, Richard E. Grant would be one of the last people I'd look at really haha. Course I've never seen the A&E version so I really couldn't say for sure haha.

There's also The Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1937) with Barry K Barnes and Sophie Stewart. Also starring some bloke called James Mason as Citizen Tallien...

It's quite a sweet adaptation, I think, and it's further into Percy and Marguerite's relationship than many of the others which just do the angst of getting together and never the happily ever after.

Sounds cool and it appeals to my love of movies from the thirties. I'll definitely have to check that out. Thank you.:)

glad to have helped - my dvd came as a box set with the Leslie Howard version, if that's any use when you're searching the internet!
