Rian barely glanced up from his systematic disassembly of his telescope

Rian crawled his Land Rover over some rough terrain as he navigated the narrow track that would bypass the news reporter-infested parking lot where the forestry service road was gated. Luckily, his father had been in the FS, and had frequently used this little side track when taking Rian out for their 'survivor' weekend camping trips. It would wind around the top and back side of the hill and meet up with the service road about three miles beyond the locked gate. Still, the delay forced by the slow pace had him gritting his teeth in agitation

Rian shook his head to clear it. This was just impossible. If what he suspected was true, then there was going to be serious trouble, because there were Rules

Dave hiked for an hour back the way down the rarely-used track. The way was rough, and at moments he had a hard time believing Rian had actually driven his Land Rover across this very same terrain. Eventually, though, he noticed a very slight brightening of the filmy sunlight ahead, a second before he stepped out onto the main service road
