The media circus known as "the election campaign of 2008"

Ok so many of you know me personally on here and know very matter-of-factly, I do not vote. I usually steer clear or elections, voter based systems and anything governmental. Now albeit it is not because i choose to be ignorant however, I hold a dual citizenship in both the United States as well as, The Republic of Ireland ( Read more... )

Where did you get the $75k number? I'm just curious because last night (and multiple other times) he stated that anyone who makes less than $200k/year would be getting a tax cut. People between 200k and $250k would see no change. People making more than $250K would see a tax increase, but no more than it was under Clinton - which was pretty low historically speaking. This same cut off, from what he said last night, would also apply to small businesses. In both cases the cut offs would be based on gross and not net. Of course, the president can say he'd give everyone a puppy and magic rainbow - it doesn't matter if the congress doesn't approve it ( ... )

I did get married. Its been pretty cool but its been difficult as well. 5 months after we got hitched my wife's father died unexpectedly. Its just one of those things that we all have to go through at some point - I was hoping for more of a honeymoon though :) I still have my house, its still old and falling apart, and I still love it. I also started a software company - so I don't actually have time to do much of anything other than work. So the house has been at a bit of standstill and will likely remain so for another 6 to 12 months. This makes me sad but hey, at the same time I'm saving a lot of money by not running out to Lowes every weekend ( ... )

I completely respect your opinions :)

I just wanted to point out.... the one big thing with McCain and the "omg, he might die!" thing is not just his age, but his health history, which is anything but good. So the possibility that he may get ill and/or die is higher than it usually would be with an older candidate.

That's all :)

In addition to his medical track record, McCain is nearly 3 years older than Reagan who was our oldest president in history of inauguration. Reagan was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease a year before he left office. That's a pretty scary thought by itself!

And I was about to post the same thing as rapier1 regarding O'Bama only adding taxes to those whose income is more than $250K. When you reach that bracket, you've got so many tax shelters set up that I doubt you'd notice it like any of the other brackets.

I can see where hubby's coming from if her believes it is something that will personally help him, but I'm more in line with you on this since I think there ultimately are things more valuable ~ like being able to really, truly have some sense of pride in this country and feel we're being represented better as a people.

I like Obama a lot, something just clicks with his demeanor and spirit that feels trustworthy to me. That said, if you look at *all* the facets of what it takes to be president, I think Biden's in all actuality the real leader in this race and the one who ~should~ probably be president (and of course he has run for the office multiple times). The way I see it though, only one of the tickets includes Biden, so that's the obvious one to go with. :)

(By the way, J & K, who came out with us last December just texted us that they were off to San Diego today, so naturally we thought of you and how lovely it was to finally spend some time with you!)
