If we're talking resources, I got a few I go to regularly for the basics:
Fabric: Metro Textiles on W. 38th St. Small but always a good bargain
Supplies: Panda on w. 37th. They make their own zippers and very affordable so you can't go wrong. Also, elastic and bias tape by the roll and the fat, squat spools of thread.
Findings and trims: Botani on w. 36th and Daytona Trimmings on w. 39th.
Also, and you might have one near you, I work at a Michaels so sometimes I manage to find what I need in Weddings, Kids and Jewelry. Just in case, I work at the one on 99th and Columbus Ave. and they have a pretty good stock on things.
Regular shopping, there's a good bit of boutiques around Ave. A and B between w.4th st. and 14th st. When I feel like busting my wallet to death, I go to Tokyo Rebel for Japanese imports.
