Reading to the bottom on the article it looks like they are just the equivilent of sticking a tic tac up your wotsit! Which probably feels interesting, but it's best to use a sugar free one, or you're likely to get thrush, which sort of defeats the point of the mint!

There's nowt worse than a lass who doesn't consider the flavour of her chuff when yer having a muff-dive. I prefer spearment for example. Liquorice is definitely out. ;)
