HISTORY
Being an orphan adopted by the Order, Nero grew up to be a Holy Knight, a group charged by the Order with the task of eliminating demons. The Order was an organization who followed the legend of Sparda and worshipped him. During his adolescence, Nero was a victim of an accident which leads to his right arm being transformed into his Devil Bringer. It isn't explained how that exactly happened or if that accident only led to the 'activation' of his powers. But it is said that he already had Demon's blood in his veins (Sparda's to be exact.)..

His story starts during a ceremony of the Order about Sparda and a Savior, that the Order believes one day will ascend to save them all. The ceremony gets interrupted by Dante with a great crash from the ceiling. He shoots the leader of the Order in the head, stirring up panic in everyone and making them flee. Nero, though, remains there and starts to fight with Dante until he escapes as well.
Seeing him as an enemy, Nero is ordered by the Order to find Dante and sets off on a journey to look for him.

While on his journey, Sanctus, the leader of the Order, is revived thanks to a secret ceremony with the help of Credo, brother of Nero's love interest Kyrie, and Agnus, Alchemist of the Order.

After wandering, fighting demons and gaining new powers for his devil bringer, Nero finally meets Agnus in a secret basement. He tries to ask him questions about what was going on in the Order and they both end up fighting. The fight results in Nero's victory but he becomes careless and ends up being caught by his enemy. Agnus tells him that the one who led him into his lab to kill him was Credo and that the Order was trying to learn how to control demonic power to conquer the world. He also says that the one who created the Hellgate was him, to gather demons and control them.

Immediately after being knocked out and having a flashback of the day his arm changed, Nero wakes up and gains control of Yamato, a special sword kept in the lab. The sword awakens the devil within him, making him capable of evoking an avatar-like spirit who helps him in the fight and forces Agnus into retreating.

To get answers, he changes his objective from Dante to Credo. Reaching the headquarters of the Order, Nero eventually finds him there and demands answers but Credo attacks him, forcing him into a fight as much as Nero doesn't want to. Once again, Nero emerges victorious but immediately after their fight, Kyrie comes into the scene and notices Nero's devil arm. While he tries to explain to her about it, Agnus appears and kidnaps her under Sanctus' orders.

He follows him to the headquarters and fights him again, managing to defeat him this time as well. After, they are interrupted by Sanctus who sends away Agnus and takes the girl.

His journey's objective changes for the third time, still searching for answers but making Kyrie's rescue his top priority. He bumps into Dante again who asks him to return the Yamato (sword once wielded by Vergil, Dante's twin brother) to him, saying that the sword was used to separate their world from the world of the demons. However, Nero refuses and they fight for a second time. In the end Dante lets Nero keep the sword and lets him go.

Nero eventually finds Sanctus on top of a statue that was supposed to be their 'Savior'. Nero attacks him but Kyrie appears from the core of the statue stopping his attack. Sanctus then orders the Savior to capture him and grab him in his hand, immobilizing Nero and stealing the Yamato from him. Credo suddenly arrives at the scene and tells Nero to run away while he blocks Sanctus, but without effect. Dante and his partner Trish reach the statue as well in the exact moment that Nero and Kyrie are absorbed into the statue.

Sanctus tells them that though he initially wanted to use Dante's, he was going to use Nero's blood and the Yamato to bring life into the Savior.

Dante decides to save them after hearing Credo's request, starting a journey to destroy all of the Hell gates and to regain Yamato from Agnus' hands.

Nero remains in the core until Dante frees him, sending Yamato inside of it.
The two of them decide to fight the statue together, one from the inside and one from the outside. Nero even meets Sanctus in it, saving Kyrie and defeating him once and for all.

After all the fights, Nero thanks Dante for the help and Dante decides to entrust him with Yamato, walking away and leaving the couple alone.
PERSONALITY
Snarky, cocky, sarcastic; all of these adjectives are pretty much what someone will notice about Nero when they meet him for the first time. Nero is a bit anti-social preferring to do things alone instead of working with someone else. In the Order he was only used for "special missions" that always required him to work by himself. He's pretty confident in his abilities and doesn't really care about what kind of enemies he's facing at the moment; if they were stronger than him, he would try to search for a way to gain an advantage everytime and in every situation. The main reason for that is because he's stubborn -- and maybe because he's pretty damned arrogant, but mainly because of his stubbornness. When Nero decides on something, it's rather hard to stop him. Whatever it may be, his task will have to get done no matter what.

Despite all this, Nero is still a teenager. He'll try to put up that "badass" façade as much as he can but if his buttons are pushed, he'll stop thinking and just strike, acting completely on impulse and without thinking about the consequences. Because he's just emotional like that, of course. He's young and becomes enraged easily. And all of this is worsened if it is regarding people he loves. They are the thing he cares about the most and also his biggest weakness. If you have a problem with them, then you will have a problem with Nero.

One of those people is Kyrie, childhood friend and love-interest. Part of the reason he fights is simply for her. He puts her life before everyone else's and would probably jump in a fire if that meant her salvation.

Lastly, Nero is extremely irreverent. He couldn't care less if you're older or an important person. People need to work hard to gain his respect; maybe with a fight or maybe by helping him somehow, but that's it though it's still pretty hard. He also seems to dislike boring things, and he probably will go "whatever" if you tell him about things he doesn't care for.
ABILITIES
Basically, Nero is a skilled fighter; he knows how to use his sword and even more how to use his shotgun. He grew up in an anti-demon organization and had a lot of training under it. He also seems pretty skilled with mechanics as well; he modified his sword by himself, adding a motorbike-handle on it to enhance its strength. He also has demon's blood in his veins, giving him the ability to heal his wounds faster than a normal human.

But where Nero's strength really lies is in his right arm, the Devil Bringer. It's still a mystery how Nero obtained it but it's said that it resembles the arm of a demon. It bestows upon Nero superhuman strength and many special abilities, like the ability to bend space and time or to move across large distances just by stretching it.

When Nero obtains the Yamato, another power is added to his inventory: the Devil Trigger. While using the Devil Trigger, a transparent-blue avatar manifests itself behind him, holding the sword and mimicking every Nero's move, giving him even more strength. What are they bringing to Nuadoria?: Sword, shotgun and MP3player, just because.

Third-Person Sample: Okay, now. Nero's life couldn't really be defined as normal. He's seen a lot of things, you know. A gigantic statue that wanted to dominate the world, some sort of gigantic centaur covered in fire... hell, where he came from there were demons all over the place! But that -- that. It was something completely different. Being catapulted into a different world without actually knowing how-- (wasn't he just feeling a bit dizzy two seconds ago?) was abnormal even for his world.

Okay. Maybe that was a dream. Maybe he was going to wake up soon. But hell if that wasn't one of the most goddamned realistic dreams he ever had. He looked around, trying to see if there was someone near or something, but the only thing that was moving in that place in that moment was the water of the fountain not too far from him. What was that thing that you do to see if you're dreaming--? Pinch yourself--?

"Hn--" Right. Of course that wouldn't work. Of course that wasn't a dream. Why did he even try, anyway? That was probably one of those stupid things that they invent or something. --Damn it, he'd bet that that man was behind this somehow. Or that he'd be here somewhere, too.

But it wasn't time to worry about that, right now. He needed to search for a way out; to understand what the hell that place actually was. And now that he thought about it... what if Kyrie was there too? The possibility was low, but there still was. Who knows if he was the only one dragged there from Fortuna... Damn it. That wasn't good. Kyrie could be in danger--
The only thing that could come in handy at that moment was that weird device that he found there, on the ground. Just the time to understand how it worked and--

"Hey, anybody listening? What is this place supposed to be, Hell?" He paused and then continued with a sarcastic tone. "And here I was hoping to find a warmer place, you know, with flames and all that." He paused again before adding a final sentence and ending the transmission. "Guess I'll have to get used to this."

First-Person Sample:

[ Accidental voice; ]

[ muttering to himself. ]

Well, isn't this fantastic. From one shithole to another. God must really love me up the--

[ and now his voice suddenly sounds panicked and louder, since now he's talking into the device. ]

Kyrie!? Kyrie, are you here!? Dammit, this isn't good--!

[ The transmission cuts off. ]
