Some game recommendations (presented in no particular order):

Full disc-type games
  • The Orange Box (five games in one! FPS action, also puzzles)
  • Rock Band 2 (a good place to start if you have not played past rhythm games. avoid Guitar Hero games, if you ask me)
  • BioShock (more FPS, but with ambiance out the wazoo)
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (best Batman game ever made)
  • Assassin's Creed II (running, jumping, climbing buildings. also, killing guys. need not have played the first one to enjoy)
  • Burnout Paradise (best damn driving game on the platform, tons to do, lots of great DLC (both free and cost-money type))
  • Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (the second game in the series. raise pinatas in a garden, much of the fun is in trying to get rare pinatas)

XBox Live Arcade games (you can play any of these in trial mode for free)
  • Shadow Complex (platformy goodness, a callback to Metroid and Castlevaina: Symphony of the Night)
  • Braid (puzzle-platforming with time-based mechanics, plus beautiful hand-drawn visuals)
  • Chime (musical block puzzle ( ... )

    thanks dude!
i;ve been meaning to get orange box for pc since forever, so maybe it will be a good intro to fps using a game controller [i am terrible at the moment]

never been into the music games. i am ok at drumming in rock band but doesn't really thrill me much.

batman looks awesome and your the second person to day to tell me to get bioshock, which i played the start of a few years back and loved.

i was gonna ask you these things via live but fuck is it time consuming to type with a controller.

is it gold membership worth it? i noticed you've had yours for a year.

any idea why i can't buy orange box from the marketplace? i can find it but all it offers is a demo and some videos. no actual full game :/

    cheers man.

I would say it is worth it. You get all sorts of perks, such as Netflix, Twitter, Facebook and Last.FM, plus you can only play games online with a gold account.

Only a few full games are available in the Marketplace, so Orange Box may be one of the games you'll need the disc for, sorry.

As for typing with the controller, if you find you have to do it a lot, for whatever reason, there is an accessory you can buy that snaps onto the bottom of the controller that has a full qwerty keyboard on it. I love mine, check it out, maybe.
