Stereotypes are fun!!!

Check out the first 1:10 of this video clip of Hillary Clinton on The View recently. She is asked about the differences between a woman and a man running for president. And oh, do I love her answer! It's so refreshing to hear someone...oh, what was that? She makes a joke about how long it takes women to get ready before they go out? Great.

As if I needed another reasong that I'll a) vote third party b) hold my nose while I vote for her.

The Republican candidates are so weak this year that we could nominate any of the Democratic candidates and feel secure. But we're sticking with Clinton? Ugh!!!

I didn't find this offensive at all. She finished the joke by saying, "No." She was directly attacking the stereotype, and starting with the crappy joke (and then negating its power) was a good way to do that, imo. I absolutely loved the rest of her interview, especially about the 90+ yo women saying, "I saw women get to vote and I'm going to live to see a woman in the Whitehouse." I found it inspiring.

i guess the problem i have with it is that her initial response (even though she goes on to say how it isn't true) has been played on so many shows now. i feel like there's already enough artillery out there being used against the idea of a woman running for president that the last thing i want to hear is a convenient sound byte perfect for airing EVERYWHERE that supports one of those arguments. i mean, it could have been worse, it could have involved starting a nuclear war because she was on PMS, but still...

maybe i'm just not a big hillary fan. she seems so fake on so many levels (adopting the accent of whatever region she's speaking in, speaking at pro-choice and pro-life rallies using "their" rhetoric, etc.). matt gave me goosebumps the other day by suggesting a gore/obama ticket. even though gore hasn't announced he'll run, and probably won't run...that thought made me way too happy.

I admit she should have been more aware of how media would take the sound clip out of context, but I don't think there was anything wrong with what she said within the context in which she said it ( ... )
