Oh, and I don't know if you're on ONTD_P, but there was a recent posting about the disgusting and near-identical nature of quotes from men's magazines giving advice on how to approach/treat women, and quotes from actual rapists. Quite disturbing. Yup, rape culture all the way - WOOHOO AMURRICA!
Someone once asked me (before they knew I was childfree) whether I'd prefer a boy or a girl. I told them "a boy because, with a boy you only have to worry about one penis. With a girl, you have to worry about all of them, and not just the ones she chooses to meet."
no, we TOTALLY agreed to that - providing you take over the world FIRST :) but until you do, my contract specifies that i'm able to pursue my own plans of world dominion, providing i include you in my government if *my* bid suceeds.

i've answered the same question the same way [and been told it's make me not-a-feminist. gah!] and dude, my neice [you know the one] is almost 16 and she's taller than me by half an inch, and half of me wants to lock her in a safe room, and half wants to make a time travel machine so she could attend high school in the early 90's which were BETTER TO GROW UP IN, DAMNIT!
If I bothered to read all the fine print in our World Domination Contracts, I'd never get anything done.
Yeah, I really should find other things to do with my time than troll the ONTD_P site, since it's probably going to give me an ulcer. I can only take so much stupidity (vicarious or direct) in one day.
One thing you have going for you about PJ, though: she was able to spot that Edward Cullen was a stalker without any prompting from you - that puts her head, shoulders and waist above most of the women out there right now.

and thank you!!! for reminding me of that! you're VERY correct - kid's smart, learns quickly, and is pretty sure of where she stands. hell, i wasn't that cool at her age [and i'm not sure i'm that cool NOW...]
honeslty, i think it's a 50's social attitude revival. in the 50s, pop culture had the same message of "women are NOTHING if they aren't beautiful" [WITHOUT any added "but beautiful women can have ANY career they want." and i don't know what's worse - that beauty is still more important than brains or talent or drive, or that ONLY beautiful women are expected to be able to ACCOMPLISH anything with them]
back then, random dude shouting "compliments" and/or "wolf whistles" were seen as an affirmation of beauty. and since the ONLY thing women could aspire to [aside from marriage and motherhood] was beauty, these intrusions were seen as positive.
this is the backlash at feminism and the ideals thereof - feminism is what INSISTED that women are NOT sex objects and attention like that is NOT POSITIVE, so *of course* the people who want to return to the 50s-that-didn't-actually-exist have to espouse the party lines - including that ALL sexual attention paid to ANY human female is "good".
