I just completed an extremely interesting book by the name of The Trouble With Physics by Lee Smolin that deals with the subject of string theory in modern physics, while using that specific controversy to address larger issues of academic politics, how to define scientific progress, and the relationship between democratic communities and science ( Read more... )

Denis, the Hey Ya video has been removed by the user. Just to let others know.
Also, interesting book review but you neglect to tell us what string theory is. So it kind of hurts to read. But here it is:
its a unifying theory, meaning its a theory saying that eveything in its smallest components are strings of energy vibrating differently to make different things
Is that right?

Thanks for letting me know. I've changed the link to another one that works (there are a bunch of copies of that video all over youtube).

I guess I assumed that everyone would have at least some vague awareness of string theory as a theory of everything, but that was probably a mistake. I've edited in a rough definition as a correction.
