Every year, you can count on folks like newspaper columnists and TV broadcasters to point out the many instances of goodwill and human compassion that the Thanksgiving holiday generates, but what they fail to consider is that the events of Friday after will more than erase whatever good karma is generated on Thursday ( Read more... )

People don't shop for christmas in other countries?

In a lot of places they don't, and even where they do it isn't on the same scale as in the US. The phenomenon of frenzied Christmas shopping, with people fighting each other over Tickle Me Elmo and such, is a particularly American vice.
