Expression help?

Mar 24, 2023 11:00

I was reading a comment elsewhere and it said they'd been taught that German has an expression or phrase for clothes that are the correct size but don't fit you. Does anyone know what they were referring to? (Equally I'm not 100% certain if this might be a "fifty words for snow" kind of thing.)

I can't think of anything tbh.

I know the phenomenon. Like when I lift my arms and my shirt is grabbing my biceps, or my pants are fine except the waist is cut too low in the back. If anyone would have a word for it, the Germans would.

Drawing a blank on this one too - there well might be an expression for this, but damned if I know it.

Haha. When it doesn't fit you, but it also doesn't fit your frenemy!

etwas passt nicht -> can be the wrong size or not a good fit

etwas sitzt nicht (richtig) -> does not fit but might be the correct size
