Let me shine some light on your so called "exploding plate" story. When dishes anything made of glass or certain ceramic or glass-like matterials shift from hot to cold too quickly... it causes things to explode. Example: You take a glass cup right out of the dishwasher when it gets heated to become dry. You proceed to pour ice cold water with ice in it... *bingo* you have an exploding cup.
