Dreamt I was reading Alice Munro. It said, "All she wanted to do was play Subeta Subeta Subeta Subeta Chubeta Chubeta Chubeta Chubeta". That about sums it up.

Warning: anxious post. Proceed with caution.

OH! BUT! I told my brothers about Toby and I! I joined them on my fake-name Facebook, which is ironically more real than my real-name one. They ( Read more... )

There is no reason to be that anxious over this SOPA/ACTA stuff, and I could bust some heads on the internet for making you feel that way. I mean, it's *good* people know about these things and they're not just sliding through without a fight, but there's also been a lot of overreaction muddling the real issues. Does that make sense?

SOPA was a shitty bill that we can only hope is dead now - to be frank, it's the fact Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia rose up against it that made the difference, as it was vaguely worded enough - and gave the copyright holders way too much power - that they worried about it affecting wide-ranging blogs and sites that also happen to host or link to some pirated stuff. I hope you're right. I'm probably just being my usual self and trying to live with the worst case scenario, so I won't be too sad if something does happen. I think the internet, as it is, feels a little too good to be true. I remember a world without it and don't want to go back there, so maybe I have this general panic about losing it all?

My internet provider recently blocked Pirate Bay, so this is happening in Finland too. Basically, I can live without torrents; I can buy or rent DVD's and buy songs. What I worry about is free speech. If that doesn't go, maybe it'll even be oK. Although they're major hyopcrites, because what they want is their money, not the artists' rights or anything.

Ironically, I had been using Megaupload for perfectly legal things just now - sharing files of myself reading my own stories, or videos of Osku. Other than that, it might not be such a big deal.
