You Know My Name...

Hey LJ peeps:
Fulfilling a longtime request by bradamant, who made the inarguable point that it was a bad idea to maintain a LiveJournal under our mutual last name, I have reinvented my LJ identity. I am now dennis_obell.

I can't imagine what it must be like to represent an act that goes off the reservation like that. What a douche.

yeah, i can just picture his publicist getting that sinking, sick feeling in his stomach as he heard the interview going on. i actually had to deal with BB himself at this event last october- he was the MC and we had to schedule and facilitate interviews with him at the venue. he was pretty composed then, thank god. none of this bullshit. i think one writer even asked him about angelina and he didn't lose it. but i mostly wasn't around for those interviews- i was out front (although i did meet him briefly in his dressing room afterwards).

I don't know how I feel about anonymous handles on LJ ... ;)

More seriously, isn't this still linked to your rock writing? If so, will that be anonymous too?

About three years ago bradamant helped me set up a separate WordPress blog for the music writing, and we transferred four years' worth of music-related LJ posts over there to preserve them for posterity. (They're still here as well, obviously.)

I continued blogging about music there for a little while in the summer and fall of 2006, but then I got happily ensconced at Idolator, and it has served as my de facto music-writing home for the last two-plus years.

Of course, I might need to reactivate the WordPress blog soon, as I just found out yesterday that Idolator has had its entire freelancer budget cut, and my column there will terminate after April. :-(

You're sweet. Sadly, a lobbying campaign wouldn't do much -- Maura, the editor, wants to keep me as badly as I want to stay. She literally can't pay a single person besides herself anymore. So I have to go.

Unless, of course, I'm willing to continue to column for free, which despite sounding like a fiscally imprudent move I am seriously considering. I mean, what the hell, I've been saying for years, "I'd write about the Billboard charts for free!" and now I could put my (lack of) money where my mouth is.
