Through Organs R Us (ORU) the Golden Gate Relay (GGR) supports 125,000 Americans waiting for organ donors. Since 1995, the transfer of the baton from runner to runner has symbolized the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. Over 100 teams will run/walk this year!

Capitan, Nick Shelton

After running with the Google 1 winning team in 2012, Nick Shelton (born 1/5/86 in Macon, GA), crossed the GGR finish on May 4, 2014 with team Google Gives. On May 9, Nick donated a kidney to his brother Alex (born 11/6/93) who suffers from Alport’s Disease. Nick’s gift allowed Alex to continue studying business administration at the University of Georgia. Although he lost 25 pounds, Nick was able to run a 10K on July 4, 2014. In 2016, Nick’s team and Atlanta team Triage - Bring Em Out will dedicate their runs to Alex.
