As soon as I finish rewatching Sherlock, I'm going to go back and rewatch Black Sails from the start

Hm, I wonder if I should try it again sometime. I watched the first couple of episodes and found it quite cheesy in a trying-to-be-gritty sort of way...

It gets better. It really does get better past the first three or four episodes. I think the first few episodes are too 'piratey', if that makes sense? Like it has to establish its pirate credentials before it can move on to the actual story arc.

Deciding whether to invest in Black Sails - are there any animals in it whose treatment might worry me?

Animals? As in, actual furry animals, or nasty people?

I don't recall any animals one way or the other. Perhaps the odd stray goat or parrot in the background.
