Altruism is just as much of a sin as complete and total selfishness.

The point is to balance your virtues with your flaws, because flaws serve purposes as well.

Flaws only serve as a use insofar as they serve as a trajectory for turning toward altruism.

It seems that our worldviews have reached a deadlock.

haha Yep :) It appears we have reached an impasse.

I feel like the ego IS an "evil" construct that is necessary in some degree to survive in this world.

I do believe in transcendence and whatnot, but I don't see how it's possible to transcend and still remain a part of society as the world slides further and further into chaos.

Eventually you have to make choices, and there is not always a preferrable choice. Involvement in humanity demands that you make choices out of lesser or greater evils. I believe good is what we create, not what we're given to choose.
