Damn...it's been so long since I read the book, I hardly remember the story anymore. I was really surprised when I heard that the movie will have three parts though. I mean, the book is way shorter than the Lord of the Rings, and THAT took 3 movies...they are seriously planning to milk it for what it's worth, huh?
I also don't like massive deviation from the canon...but somehow, I didn't really mind with the Lord of the Rings...
I wasn't buthered at all by the changes, but that's probably because I read the book when I was about 10, so, I don't remember anything about it. XD It was a fun adventure film to me.
And of course the fact that there will be 3 films already suggests that they intend to milk the franchise for what it is worth. I bet there will be like 3 kinds of DVD sets in the end, too.
From what I've understood from interviews and such, the actual Hobbit book is short but there's a lot of additional, related material by Tolkien (what Gandalf did when we didn't see him in the book etc.). That stuff is what's been added to the films and that's what makes it a longer story to tell. But yeah, I can also see the cash cow standing on piles of money too. XD
Oh well, in that case you wouldn't notice the changes, of course XDD
There is additional stuff, but it is mostly very dry factual information, simply stating what happened, so all the conversations and interactions between characters are invented... Well, let's hope they use this money to make the next films look better XD

I know! 2 films might have been somewhat acceptable, but 3 is definitely too much :/
Lol, well, I guess it's a good thing, in that case you can enjoy the films properly :)
