I was on depo for a few years and at the end my period was finally going away all together.. before that I spotted a lot. I stopped depo because I wasnt having sex anyway and also the risks associated with calcium depletion..etc. So I expected it to be awhile before I got my period back.. Why would not having your period keep one from having kids?

something about the body being so long without whatever a period offers down there..so that its just not suitable to create a baby anymore? i have no idea.. my friend told me it happened to someone she knew that went awhile without her period.. but thats why im posting, because maybe it is not true at all

I think if you're not getting periods, that probably means you're not ovulating.

well the lack of period and the not being able to have kids is generally associated with malnutrition because the body goes into survival mode and shuts down reproductive organs seeing as they are not as important as say your heart, this is not the same as your period stopping because of depo, that it caused by changes in hormone level. Like when a women gets pregnant her hormones change and her period stops. Until these hormones level off and get to the place they were at before the shot the period wont come back. Also, the pill will bring your period back, or at least it did for me within two months or so. My period is still not fully normal either though, now it's like 2 days if that after about a year, I'm not sure.

I didn't get my period back for almost 18 months after going off depo in 2003. They put me on pills for a while but that didn't do so good because I started having crazy mood swings, so I switched to the Nuva Ring until I got my period back and stayed on that for several months. I did another stint with depo for six months earlier this year and instead of being several days long my period subsided to 24-36 hours, tops, and stayed that way even though I switched back to the nuva ring in September. Now I'm considering getting a Mirena IUD...
so my advice is keep waiting.
