Harry Potter, the boy who caused so much fandom wank.

Tempted to block Harry Potter before Tumblr ruins it for me the week before the premiere.
I completely agree that JKR isn't the world's strongest writer, but the fact of the matter is that she created a world (that while it has its problems) has become a cornerstone of children's literature. It's a book series that will continue to live on, even now ( Read more... )

HMMMMMMMM. I actually agree with this! But also I think part of the reason it causes so much wank is that the kids who read Harry Potter early on are now all grown up. I was like 12 or something when I read the first three and then I totally bought the next two (or four??) at midnight because I am a huge loser and also I wanted to avoid spoilers. But now, 13 years later, they just don't capture me the same way.

Oh, no I completely agree. Every time I reread HP, I notice more and more things. But I think we fill in the empty spaces with fanon and everything like that that I don't really CARE if it's not canon, you know? I mean, strictly from a literary standpoint, it's by no stretch of the imagination a super well-written book. But I mean, look at us when we were 11 and 12, we were just enthralled, you know? And I think that's what makes it still so great to those kids.

I'm just saying, as a kid, I definitely didn't want to read about how the Ministry of Magic worked, and frankly, as an adult and reading it, I don't really care either. It'd be nice like as a future~~ reference, but it's not something I'm really upset about.
