I left a long rambling comment of incoherent love on Garonne's brilliant fic The Way the World is (I think there's a clue in that title, anon), and got a reply from an AO3 guest calling themselves "I just don't get it". And now it is very late and *I* am not in bed where I should be, but ugh. dS anon is the WORST, and seriously? As you point out, Garonne's fic is nuanced and believable and wonderful, an excellent portrayal of how RayV, as a decent human being, finds himself confronting his own prejudices and doing difficult emotional work in order to do something about them. CHALLENGING INTERNALISED PREJUDICES IS HARD AND IT TAKES A LOT OF GUTS AND SELF-HONESTY AND EMOTIONAL LABOR TO DO IT, SO STEP OFF ANON. GARONNE PORTRAYED RAYV AS AN EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL HERO WHO WE CAN ALL REALISTICALLY ASPIRE TO BE, AND I THINK THAT'S ABOUT AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT GETS.
(I'm sorry, I got a little ranty capslocky there, didn't I? But, yes, I agree, dS anon sucks and should take some courses on manners and also microsoc)

If anon doesn't get that, well, their loss. Or as I posited above, they're doing it on purpose because the irony is almost too much to bear. As is the deliberate and frankly quite difficult way Anon ignores the entire premise of the fic, as encapsulated IN THE TITLE. It's about "The way the world is", Anon! THE WAY THE WORLD IS!!!!!

Oh Deputy! I'm sorry they got to you now too. They are the worst (and for some reason just will not stop harassing people >.<)

No matter what you say to them, they will be convinced that they are right and everyone that ships F/K is some sort of psycho Ray V-hating obsessed-with-gay-sex monster, no matter how polite(which their comments make very difficult to do) or well-rounded their arguments are.

Proud of you for not giving in to the very strong urge to respond to them.

I don't know why I was spared from anon for so long. Actually maybe I do, because I don't allow anon commenting on any of my platforms so they could only approach me via a comment on someone else's fic. And since I now know who it is, I know that they approved of my RayV POV fic (the one you betad for me with his and Stella's wedding) so perhaps they assumed we were in agreement. I would LIKE to be in agreement over some basic things that nearly everyone else takes for granted, like how RayV is a good person and Fraser loves him and fandom loves him, and you'd think that would be easy stuff to agree on, wouldn't you? BUT NO NOT FOR ANON. They want to be angry about some made up stuff, so, well, they're gonna be. And everyone is helping me to be a grownup and respond here in private rather than having an unproductive argument on the internet about fictional characters. Thanks, gang!

Gosh, I am glad you posted this here. I wanted to reply to you, but I've been hiding away from AO3 since that strange person left that very unsettling comment, and I didn't know what to do with it... Particularly annoying because my head is full of comments I want to leave on OTHER people's big bang creations! (I mean, because I didn't want to go running around squeeing on other people's stuff while ignoring YOU, if that makes sense ( ... )

Hi, I'm glad you found this thread! It's hard to know how to respond to a comment like that, isn't it? That anon has been around for a little while and no one so far has successfully engaged with them. I won't be replying to their comment because it only ever seems to lead to bad feeling when anyone tries, so if you're tempted not to reply that might be the way to go. Although if they had commented in such a way on MY fic I'm not sure I could restrain myself. Other people have deleted comments on their fic so there's a certain fandom consensus that it may be better to just not play along with this person ( ... )

This cheered me up a LOT when I read it! Plus your drunken mojito adventures made me smile :D

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of immigration woes, and people not being able to stay in a country just because they really WANT to. And sometimes I just want to ignore that in fic, but sometimes my brain just won't let me. Which is a little silly, actually, considering how unconcerned the actual show was with any such practical details (from Mounties running the Consulate and gallivanting round Chicago to RayK passing for a bald Italian... :D ) the show itself is! But anyway, that's a whole nother issue, and an interesting one for fic too!

I'm sorry you got ANOTHER comment from this bloody anon. I decided it was about time I switched off anonymous commenting, at least for a while, but... on AO3 you can't! Grrr. So now my strategy is to ignore them.

Thank you! Hey, no, don't worry about being a total stranger :) That was very kind of you. I'd just found a (probably very out-of-date) FAQ saying you couldn't do it, but thanks to your tip I have managed to do it.

Luckily AO3 has my best interests at heart and didn't notify me about the comment. But because I have no impulse control I had to go and read them, and I'm really loving how everyone is exchanging friendly, insightful comments and is politely pretending not to notice Anon shouting in the corner. I love the dS fandom. Every day we live the maxim that it only takes an extra second to be courteous, Ray.
