I've been hacking up my lungs the last few days.  My post-nasal drip seems to be getting worse too (I was diagnosed with it last year).  The doctor said it was probably from allergies... but lately the phlegm has gone from white to green, so I think it's probably infected.  I have insurance, but probably can't afford the co-pay.  I didn't notice it ( Read more... )

Hopefully anti-allergy meds would take care of the worst of it, while the infection should clear up soon after. I tend to get bad post-nasal and a mild infection roughly once a year, usually linked to either a bad cold or seasonal allergies. The assorted drugs usually handle it though. With luck, yours'll do the same.

What do you usually take? Last year the doc said to take Benadryl and that didn't seem to do much, so I've been hoping it would just go away... which seems silly at this point (a year later). :p

For allergies, I use Zyrtec or Claratyne, or their generic equivalents which are a lot cheaper.
I'm not sure if they're marketed under that name in the US; the active ingredient is called cetirizine hydrochloride.

As a decongestant, I favour Otrivin nasal spray. The menthol variety's very strong but the regular kind works well too. Pseudoephidrine's still the best decongestant ever, but it can be hard to get sometimes because so much is stolen for use in methamphetamine manufacture.
