I don't have much to say about this past weekend's trip up to Minnesota for a mainline steam ride.  Just a few photos and random notes....

Trust me, I was thinking about taking shots while pacing. But then the rails would diverge from the road, or the trees would pop up, and I was all "...." And then she'd come back and I was all "!!!" and forget about grabbing my camera because I was filled with glee.

That, and I take awful, shit pan shots for whatever reason. They never work for me, as in I set it for what I think is an appropriately slow speed and do the following motion and get this teenyweeny lil' blur--like, "why did you bother?" sort of blur. When we were standing there with that storage building behind us, I was thinking I was going to get great pan shots. "Surely, this will be the day!" I got home and looked and found crap instead. And not even a semi-acceptable, "it just needs a tiny tweak in PS" sort of crap. I think I need to practice doing pan shots (because that's the only way you get any good doing them) before I set myself up for failure on Chase Day.

Not pan shots, pacing shots. At that speed all you'd have to do is set the shutter speed to about 1/30 and take several shots while holding the camera as steadily as you can. Different and easier than pan shots.
