On the bright side, cats generally like to chase and eat bugs.

Van will stare and perhaps chase and swat at them, but won't purposely bring one down.

You could always convince him you've placed a bounty of a Pounce for every bug he eats, make it worth his while. My cat is a bit psychotic, she likes to keep the bugs (alive) in her mouth for a while after catching them, I think she likes the way they still buzz in there.
