I liked how this totally proved that Americans are totally oblivious to the concept of a tram.

Mostly they're just totally oblivious. Driving an automobile becomes an automatic process, no thought involved, so any unusual conditions go ignored. And trams are certainly unusual here.

Roundabouts were recently introduced into the large metropolitan area nearest me, where such things were heretofore unheard of, and it's astounding to see how often people are completely befuddled by them.

Most of the trams were ripped out and removed in 1921-25 to allow the Automobile and sales of that new mystical chemical: Gasoline.

Trams will make a comeback, which means that people will have to learn to live with them again. Should be interesting.
