54th Hunt [Action]

Sep 06, 2010 08:34

[Derek's out and about today; the house is too stifling, and besides, he wants to get a good, unobtrusive look of whatever new feathers he can find without them realizing he's, well, stalking them to get info on them. So he'll spend a fair amount of time today simply making his way around the village, occasionally stopping to watch this or that, ( Read more... )

[Sitting at the river you say? That's on the way to where Wolfwood's walking... Half because the sound of it is relaxing, half because holy crap a fully functioning river he can't even-]

[And of course he has his giant crucifix with him; he feels too weird and naked without it. After all, Luceti's allegedly dangerous... He really doesn't want to get too comfortable when the first problem arises. Lord knows he's suddenly already too at peace compared to home.]

[Derek doesn't react much at first to the fact that someone he doesn't know is walking along the river bank. After all, this is a village, or at least on the outskirts.

What gets him to actually look up and take notice is that crucifix on his back. Not exactly hard to miss, after all. And not exactly usual, either. And this is coming from someone who knows guys that attach actual lit neon crosses to their work shirts sometimes.

As the guy gets closer, Derek nods at him.]

[Have a friendly nod back. Hope you don't mind the smell of nicotine, but it's a great time to be smoking a cigarette. He stops at the edge, looking over the forest in his immediate view. The green tends to overwhelm him, but he doesn't mind it.]

Enjoying the scenery? I gotta' admit, it's pretty amazing to me, at least.

[He doesn't smoke; it's not wise to have a habit that'll make you easier to detect by the things you go after. But it doesn't bother him, either.]

Something like. New in town, I take it?

[Aaa, Nicholas is fine with it-he already tends to stick out like a sore thumb. :(]

Pretty new, yeah-just got here about a week ago; you've been here a while, then? I've met people who've been here for weeks, even years.

Been here since the beginning of the year, so it's been a bit. Not an old timer by any means, though.

...what's with the cross?

[Wolfwood grins.]

Just a memento from home. I was a traveling priest, so I had to take my work with me.

[Hopefully there will be no incentive to make any portable confessionals here.]

A priest, huh?

...Most of the ones I knew back home didn't need a cross that big.

Yeah, a priest. Surprisingly, you're one of the few people here who know what a priest is. I've had to explain it a few times for those outside of my world.

[But he offers a glance and a smile to the man.]

I'm not much good at being a priest, though. The least I could do is a carry a cross with a whole lot of mercy in it: the world where I'm from happens to lack a lot of that.

Kinda necessary to my job. Priests, I mean.

...Your world sounds a lot like mine in that respect.

Is that so? What kind of world is yours like, if you wouldn't mind my asking?

[Not a whole lot of jobs require priests. Unless death is involved, in most cases. Wolfwood is more than aware-he's had done more funerals than he has killed people. Which is... quite a lot.]

Twentieth century Earth, if that means anything to you. Nothing too special, but it's got a bit of a problem with vampires.

Earth?

... Hn, I'm afraid that's been dead and gone for a while, where I'm from.

But vampires... I didn't think there's such a thing, outside of fables or scary books-none I've heard of, yet. Though I can suddenly understand why priests would be so helpful.

[He feels he should be more shocked at things like this, but... he's seen some strange characters, both back home and here in Luceti. He can't really be that surprised to hear someone actually has to fight vampires.]

Most people on my world are the same way; they don't know. Not until they run into one. And that usually doesn't turn out very well.

...So Earth's gone where you're from, huh?

I can imagine.

Yeah, before I was born. We sort of crash landed on a desert planet; we try and make the most of it-well, the good folks try-but there's not a whole lot people can look forward to. No water above ground, no rain, no plants or flowers or the average animal or bug like here...

Not to mention, the heat sure is something to get used to.

So you all wound up on a planet wide Death Valley, essentially.
