Sarah Silverman knows I exist, sorta

Long story short: I was supposed to meet Sarah Silverman a few days ago, but shit got flipped around and I missed my chance. But my not-really-a-friend-in-the-traditional-sense-friend snapped this picture for me 'cause he was the one that fucked up, which was super sweet of him!

I posted it to facebook and twitter thinking maybe just my comedy friends would get a kick out of it, but shit is blowing up around this picture so I figured I ought to post it to LJ too! And lucky you, y'all get the LONGER version of this non-story!

Short story long: I've been doing work for the comedian Todd Glass, who hosts the podcast The Todd Glass Show, on the Nerdist Network. Let me preface this by saying that I am obsessed with the Nerdist podcasts, and listen to them ALL THE TIME. In fact, my job just recently told me that I can't listen to them at work anymore and I'm looking for another job because of it (actually, more than that, a lot of shit is happening I'm not happy with. But that's a different post full of frothy anger). Point is, I like the stuff. And The Todd Glass Show is one of my top favorite shows on there. So when I heard on a 'cast that he was looking for someone to do some work for him in his studio, I jumped at it, and totally got the gig.

The last time I was at the studio Todd mentioned that after they take a week off for Thanksgiving, they're gonna come back and interview Sarah Silverman. I fliiiipped my shiiiiit! I LOVE Sarah Silverman! She is absolutely without a doubt one of my absolute favorite comedians. I told this to Todd who casually suggested that I come by that night. He loves having people there when they record the podcasts, so I was beyond down.

I know I have friends who are fans of hers, but I made a point to not mention this to anyone for fear it didn't happen, that way I wouldn't have to explain the situation and blah blah blah. I have this superstition that whenever I tell someone about a plan I'm excited about, I seriously believe the universe pulls it away from me. Paranoia? Yes. Superstitious? Totally. But whatever.

There was a weird week break to contend with though, and the date he gave me was wrong, but finally the day came (this past tuesday) and I sent him a text. "Hey, is the podcast tonight?"

He called me and told me that he wasn't sure anymore. Things were looking sketchy because Patrice O'Neal passed away that day, and they may both be going to a thing. I totally understood and asked him to just let me know for sure.

After work I sent him another text just verifying that the show was bumped and started driving home. He sent me a text back mid-drive that yes, it was bumped. "That's cool," I said, "Just keep me apprised."

So skip to today. The show drops every friday, so I was starting to figure the show had got bumped to next week, especially since I hadn't heard anything last night and today is her birthday, so I didn't imagine she'd wanna do it on today of all days. And very honestly, I wasn't obsessing over this. I don't really get weirded out or obsessed over celebrities. I just like the work people do, and sometimes I find out stuff about that person in particular that makes me appreciate them more. Sarah Silverman is just a cool person to me, so I was looking forward to meeting her.

So today Todd sent me a text asking for my email address. Then another for how to spell my name. Nothing more, I didn't ask what it was about (at first, though I did eventually send him a text that read "Sooooo I'm a wee bit curious what you wanted my email and name for. Unless it's supposed to be a surprise. Are you getting me a starving African child? No, wait, don't spoil the surprise if that's it. I need a new one though."

Immediately after the text I got an email with the above picture. Todd told me that basically he fucked up. They decided last-last second to in fact do the podcast, and it wasn't until they were done recording did Todd remembered he forgot to call me. So he had Sarah do all the cute stuff above, and he sent it to me today.

I replied back with "Awwww... Color me disappointed (which is a blueish brown FYI). Thanks for the pic though, makes me feel like a princess." Then I posted it to facebook and twitter, thinking it'd just be a cute thing. But seriously, a ton of people are freaking out about this. Messages, likes, and texts galore.

And since I'm a total attention whore (apparently), here it is again! SHOWER ME WITH LOVE!
