In a Psychology class I once failed, we had a discussion about altered states of consciousness. How the human body and mind require these periods of other-worldliness and relaxing of mental boundaries in order to maintain health. How we crave these states, whether induced by a chemical substance or through some other means. Spinning extensively ( Read more... )

I think I might too. Though the most fun was always to have a contest with somebody to see who could spin for the longest without throwing up, and I don't know if I will be able to find anyone today. We used to compete on our lunch breaks during elementary school.

As am I. I really wish this discussion had been initiated by a teacher whose opinion I actually respected. I had to take General Psychology three times at the junior college I've been attending because I failed the class twice... I used to find it incredibly difficult to pass a class whose instructor did not interest me ( ... )

I never took any psychology classes, which is a shame.

I only took those three. It seemed to me like Psychology was the new English, meaning there were a lot of people there who had a "deep interest" in the subject because they didn't really have a lot else to do and it seemed easy. Teachers included. My experience kind of ruined the discipline for me, at least in respect to collegiate aspirations.
