You know that girl everyone knows, who is young and impulsive and needs guidance? Vriska is that, but eight-fold. Ryoji instinctually knows this. Maybe that's why he was drawn to her. Maybe it was because she was pretty hot for her age, too--never hurt. It started out as harmless hide and seek, and quickly developed into a friendship. Enough of one that Vriska would leave him what she expected to be her own dying message. One thanking him for being a friend, telling him she was doing something no one needed her to do.
Needless to say, Ryoji rushed after her, only to run straight into a sober Gamzee. Not aware that the dead could be brought back in Vatheon, a struggle ensued where he was battered and injured and escaped with his life, only barely because he thought he could save her. ... He couldn't.
He held a eulogy of sorts for her, the trauma being one that has never quite left his mind.
... Maybe it's because of this that he agreed to be her Moirail, even before he was even sure what Moirallegiance was. Because like Minato... he has seen how fragile, exactly, she is. If anything, the thought-bubble curse only proved that to him, and made him all the more determined to take care of her as best as he could.
He's proud of the progress she's made, slowly but surely becoming better at socializing and interacting with people (she even gave him a hug of her own free will during the very same curse mentioned above, and she is not a touchy-feely girl), and he views her like a little sister. ... They just happen to be dating, that's all.

The way Ryoji and Motochika met could have been lots better than it was. This was during a particularly nasty curse where he was at odds with himself, at a crossroads, uncertain what to think or believe. Motochika told him to get the fuck over himself and that he needed to not give in. Naturally Ryoji was kind of prickly about it, but... what Motochika said was rather true. By the end of their conversation, even, he had not only begun to think that maybe changing their world wasn't impossible, but that this man was the first adult he'd ever met that he could say he respected in his entirety.
Of course that... doesn't make impressing him any easier. But someday he hopes to get him and Vriska to meet, because how often DO you meet such a cool pir8 pirate, anyway?

Well, if anything is to be believed about people who are rather alike sticking together, Nepeta and Ryoji are definitive proof of that. Ryoji spoke with her and at first felt quite comfortable admitting what he was to her; in fact, he felt so comfortable they texted for quite a long time. After that, they continued meeting over the network. Of course she was affected by what happened with Gamzee, but... even so, that hasn't stopped them from remaining their cheerful, ever-curious selves.
He's been teaching Nepeta about Japanese honorifics, and has rather thought it to be quite a lot of fun to see her put them to use. These two are definitely going to become better furriends--I mean friends.

From the moment Crowley and Ryoji crossed paths in a café, Ryoji distinctly has been needled and picked at for what he is by Hell's representative. The Death Crowley is used to, it seems, is nothing like he himself is. Ryoji was merely baffled by how Crowley said he was 'disguised' as someone else, because he only had ONE human form that he could take. Ryoji TRIED to explain how he was a Shadow, but it took Crowley ages to even remotely get it.
Since then, they haven't spoken much, and to be honest, if all Crowley is going to look at is WHAT he is and not WHO he is, then Ryoji would prefer it that way.
... But the part of him that loves people (demons or humans or what-have-you) can't help but think he can't be all bad. No one is all bad... right?

Where, oh where, to start with Gamzee! This relationship has been a rollercoaster ride, for certain. When they first met, Gamzee was the chill motherfucking bro he knows now. But after he went sober due to a lack of tokens... it didn't go so well. Ryoji and Vriska had been developing something of a blossoming friendship (in human terms), so when Vriska messaged him... Ryoji went out looking for her only to find Gamzee dealing her the death blow. This sent the boy into a downward spiral and he managed to barely escape with Vriska's body and his own life; Gamzee got his scarf, Ryoji got a nice scar on his neck and some severe mental trauma for his trouble.
In the end, everything returned to normal... somewhat. Ryoji got that scarf back, Vriska returned to life. They started talking again, and he realized... Gamzee was like him, in that there was something inside him that should never be let out. Needless to say, he could relate... so he decided to stay friends with him anyway. Since Wataru left and came back, Ryoji helped console him along with Minato. The carnival incident aside, they're friends, so Ryoji plans to support him as best he can.

Ryoji is not as stupid as he appears. In fact, he is very good when it comes to observing the feelings of others... and he could tell Effy, when they met, was hurting a lot inside. Therefore, he called her out on it, hoping to help her. He was a little too direct, though; Effy stubbornly refused to tell him what it was that bothered her. It was, after all, none of his business, but Ryoji felt that it was if he could help her. Eventually Minato got through to her and they went out (all three of them) to have some fun around town. Since then he hasn't had many chances to talk to her, but he still wants to help her as best he can.
Maybe, in time, she'll open up to him or Minato fully. It's all he can hope.

Ryoji looks up to Amaterasu already! She's a bright figure and a smart girl, for a wolf. She's a lot like Koromaru, and she's also a Goddess who is far different from Nyx, as far as he can tell. It would seems Gods, in her world, are meant to be symbols of how people should live. It's sort of something of a lesson he's taken to heart--maybe a little too much, since he's considering finding a can of red paint for the aforementioned God Markings she was wondering about him not having.

Karkat is something of an asshole to put it plainly. Even so, Ryoji has seen the good that he's done and how he organizes his team, puts up with them, and... how he dealt with Gamzee's murderous rampage. On top of that, he's convinced Karkat just acts tough now that he understands troll society, but that he's actually kind deep down, even if he doesn't admit it.
It's slow going, but Ryoji has patience. And he hopes, with that patience, that they can become friends.

Minato is, and always will be, the one person Ryoji's entire life revolves around. No matter whom he may meet, Minato is... part of him. Literally. From the moment he was thrown into the boy's psyche, to the moment he began to care about the jar he was trapped in (metaphorically speaking), to the moment where he was reluctant to leave him... it all changed Ryoji into who he is today. Even his physical, 'human' body was granted to him by means of the little accident. His personality, how he feels about the world, to how much he cares and believes in the good of people... those, too, were gifts imparted to him through Minato.
Though he knows very little about the world, Ryoji is grateful that Minato gave him the chance to know it at all. Minato, who befriended a ghostly, frightening little boy who only wanted to use him to get out in the beginning... Minato, who gave that boy his own emotions from his own psyche and subconscious no less, likely deafening him to much outward emotion or expression forever, even if not by choice...
The three things always on his mind.
Minato, Minato, Minato. While Vatheon has added many other things, and an eighth thing in the form of Vriska Serket... Ryoji inevitably always worries about Minato first. He will always protect Minato from everything he can around him simply because the boy doesn't see the fragility in him that Ryoji does. Ryoji knows... because he broke him the first time, after all, even if he didn't mean to.
Thus... he worries about it. In that same way that Aigis herself does. But he is not nearly as open about this concern, or even half as aware of it. He constantly tries to protect Minato and the things he cares for down to an almost subconsciously possessive manner, only truly happy when he is around to protect that which is precious to him, and nothing is more precious to him than his other half. No matter what is happening, he tries to protect him at all times, subconsciously clinging to his former vessel and his best friend in the hope that he can protect him forever... even though he knows he can't. That in essence, this is impossible. But if the guard dog lets up on it's vigilance... what would become of the door which it protects?
He will do anything for Minato. And he knows the reverse will always be true. Because they're mirrors, after all... even if some things are reflected clearer to everyone else than it is to the two mirrors infinitely reflecting off of one another when held too close.
