detailed writeup

Einiona Canning: Einiona, despite being younger than Rion, is a bit like the older sister he never had. In a lot of ways they're opposites; Rion is quiet, shy, reserved, doesn't stand up for himself much, very thoughtful of other people. Einiona is loud, brash, somewhat obnoxious, nosy, and has all the tact of ... something that doesn't have very much tact.

This doesn't change that both of them understand each other very well and understand how each one copes with their issues. Their relationship is really one that's almost symbiotic; Rion serves to help temper Einiona's drive, while Einiona helps Rion with ... not having any drive; she speaks for him when he can't speak, where he can't find the words, because with her, she intuitively understands, even if sometimes she's tactless and says things he'd rather she didn't say.

Minako Arisato: It's probably patently obvious to everyone around them that Rion has just about the biggest boycrush ever on Minako. There's more obvious reasons for this - she's pretty, she's nice (not just to him, but to everyone), she's smart, she's... okay, she's a lot of things that boys say they like in girls, and it's painfully obvious how he feels by the way he's a little nervous when she's around, and he's a lot more careful with his writing, as if trying to figure out just what to say and how to say it so that he doesn't look like a goof (which usually is betrayed by his very obvious body language).

What really makes him go into boycrush ♥ territory, is that no matter what he's done (at least so far), she just seems to have this quiet confidence that he is a perfectly normal person who can do things just as well as anyone else. And it's not in the sort of reassuring "oh, of course you're fine!" way, like picking him up when he's down - she doesn't seem to act like he's ever been down in the first place, even when they first met and he was being flaily and awkward because ; A; pretty girl what do I even do. Even then, to him she just seemed like she thought he was fine and nice and competent and not at all the tiny little awkwardly useless kid he feels like he is a lot, and that makes him feel like he is fine and nice and competent. More than anything, her unwavering faith in him, even when he doubts himself, makes his heart flutter (even if he doesn't know that's why consciously).

Quistis Trepe: Rion has had certain expectations of the original cast, given that he spent years growing up and hearing about these people as legends, as -- well, they're not only responsible for him being alive, they're responsible for pretty much everything he's known, in some way.

A lot of the people he's encountered have not lived up to what he expected to be as heroes - some in ways he doesn't mind (see: Selphie), some in ways that he minds a bit more (see: Squall). Quistis, however, has lived up exactly to how he thinks a hero is supposed to be. In his opinion, she's nice, she's kind, she's pretty, she's understanding, and acknowledges her 'hero' status without being ... arrogant about it. Rion is absolutely, utterly convinced that she is the greatest thing since sliced bread, especially since she agreed to help tutor him and teach him more about the things he really came to Balamb Garden to learn about.

It's a combination of hero worship, a little bit of a... sort-of-but-not-really crush, and just incredible admiration for her. Rion really thinks of Quistis as a role model, and is going to do his damndest to be like her. Over anyone else, Rion is likely to take Quistis's advice, especially if it's something related to his studies.

Selphie Tilmitt: The easiest way to describe Selphie to Rion would be that she's basically his big sister. At first, he was somewhat confused, because like most of the rest of the FFVIII cast (minus Quistis), she didn't really fit into what Rion thought of as ~~ A HERO ~~. She still doesn't, quite, but he's not sure if he'd like her like that.

When he needs help with something with school, with classes, he'll go to Quistis, almost undoubtedly. If he needs someone just to talk to things with, he'll probably go to her, too. But if he needs help with people, if he has a problem that needs solving, he'll go to Selphie, because Selphie does things. He admires her drive, how she gets along with everyone so well, and when they talk he just feels like he matters to her just as much as everyone else does. She feels like family, like someone he can go to about things like that and joke and laugh with, because so often he's able to forget that she saved the world and she's just Selphie.
