I am really looking seriously at a Mac next time. Were it not for the cost of replacing all of my programs, some of which don't exist for Mac, I probably would have long ago. But as it is now possible to run a few apps in a virtual machine, it is more tempting.
Of course, the Mac I want runs about $15K, but I guess I could settle for something less. :)
Macs contrary to popular opinion are NOT resistant, immune, or impervious to viruses. There are viruses out there that work just fine on Macs, more to the point as a general rule of thumb the Mac Viruses are more debilitating on a 1:1 ratio than their Window's cousins.
Also realize that more and more viruses are spread via flash, Shockwave, and Adobe style files which run on BOTH OS's. Also as Mac incorporates more Windows-based and other generalized software and the two major OS become more and more similar the rate of cross-infection will increase.
Sucks to have these problems, but I'd rather pay half the cost for the computer than lose the larger investment only slightly more infrequently.

But at home, never an issue. Get a Mac!
Bad way to spend a long weekend, my sympathies.
