Time progresses...

But it's up to you to determine in what direction, if any. I have been progressing in many directions at once lately, which all evens out and leaves me where I started, but at least I like it here, mostly.

Been staying busy. Playing in bands, hanging out with family, working. The usual stuff.
Work is pretty busy, but not usually frantic. We had a visit from California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno, which caused lots of cleaning. But he seemed to be a nice man. And our office manager got an award at the annual Defender Dinner, which is very cool, and long overdue.
Family is also pretty busy. Dad's birthday was last month, and was a biggie, and Mom just had a hip replacement, which is also a major event. One of my sisters has a birthday tomorrow, and my nephew will be 25 soon, which makes me feel really old!
Going out with my brother Paul thursday to hear a new band. The members of the band are monsters, so it should be a real hoot.
And my friend Ray's new book just came out, and it's also very interesting. I'll be seeing him on Friday.
And I've fallen back into touch with my old friend Bill from my gaming days, and been doing a bit of on-line D&D. It's amazing how quickly the bad habits re-form. :)
The recent earthquake trashed the bar I've been playing in on Sundays, so that is a break, and I have some hope that now I'll have the time to get some proper practice in. Playing is good for you, but occasionally, you have to woodshed on technique, or you can slide into bad habits. My trumpet chops have gotten pretty sloppy of late, as I've been mostly playing trombone.
But the Wednesday night band is coming along. We're working on more difficult charts, and rehearsing with fewer substitutes, and the tightening up is progressing. Our next rehearsal will include a high school band that will be coming into town for a competition. Our leader, Tim, knows the band director, so they'll come in for a sort of master class. It should be interesting.
The monday night band is also a lot of fun, and can be very tight. The second set is usually a bit looser (after everyone visits the bar during the break), but we're getting some good charts worked out, and should be ready to record soon.
I've also been working on getting new music into Finale, and collecting some new charts, both for Big Band and for Dixieland Band, and both folders are growing nicely. Well over 300 BB charts, and about 20 dixie tunes now, which can be fun. But I'd like to get back to writing soon, as I have some ideas.
And politics is ... somewhere between firghtening and amusing.
Palin and Bachmann are still popular twits, for whatever reason; the south is trying to rise again, and getting more atte ntion from the FBI than from the population; Newt Gingrich and Orrin Hatch still think they're relevant.
And there will soon be a new SUpreme Court justice. I wonder who it will be, and how bloody the fight will be.
And life goes on.
