Duke Makes Me Cry

Since I learned I was going there, just the thought of Duke has been sufficient enough to make me burst into tears. It's just so far away! But after the wonderful Duke staff gave me the opportunity this week to become more immersed in the school system, with classes and dorming and all, I have to say...they've made it worse

university of pennsylvania= PENN. one of the best ivy league schools out there. it's in the middle of the worst part of philly and it's incredibly humid in the summer and cold in the winter. oh, and last i heard, the school still totally allowed smoking in the dorms. but, it is realy really really really freaken pretty. I hope im not telling you all this after you already know it and were just questioning why it was so high on the list which i now realize you were probably doing.

oh, and jessica lim's parents went there. smarties.

I know about UPenn, but I don't think it should should be rated so highly over other Ivies (Columbia and Cornell should be higher up, and Dartmouth should at least be at par, 'cause UPenn is low on Ivy status these days; it's usually underrated, but still)...and Duke should be top ten or slightly lower, but not all the way up there! But I won't go arguing about rank too much, 'cause it's all subjective, anyway.

i ventured to Roger Williams U 2 years ago. I feared the same things you feared. But within days.... life was great again! you'll love the dorm experience, the people you interact, and you can always go online and chat with dear ole Kenny and (ugh) Mo!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, thank you, Mr. Ken! You're so sweet. Most people only seem interested in going to the Duke area to watch Blue Devil basketball, though. :) I know I'll make friends, but it just seemed nicer to have the possibility of a built-in friend in a dorm room (even though I might've gotten one with whom I was totally incompatible, it was still a nice thought). I liked Barnard dorming, after all, 'cause I spent enough time there. I hated the one night I slept over at Cornell, 'cause I didn't get a feel for it. So...I suppose I just needed reassurance from you to realize that!

Anywho, it'll be fine, hon you'll see. So what if you don't have a double room? You still got plenty of actual dorm-mates, and they have a common area, to congregate, no? And people should be friendly enough in classes, just be your normal lovable self, and you'll make a few friends in the first couple of days. Remeber this- you're not the only lost and confused freshman, so seek some others out so you'll have a group to hang with. Hope that reassures you, hon.

Um...I think Ken meant you folks might visit Duke while trying to decide whether to apply? But most seniors visit second semester, after they've been accepted...oh well. And why is he calling you juniors? He made me do it, too! You're seniors! Yay!

I haven't started using AIM yet, mostly because it can't be on this desktop computer, so I have to wait until I get my college laptop. My SN will be Missus Benguin. I'll IM you as soon as I can! <3

oh yeah. Dartmouth v Duke rivalry always swings in our favor, regarding matriculating students accepted to both institutions. Pwnd.

Thank you, Alan! Yeah, they were generous with the aid, and with outside scholarships...yum! Extra cash! I heard about the cross admit decisions ratio, too (Duke apparently beats Cornell, though). Heck, I would've chosen Dartmouth over Duke, assuming they gave decent aid--but Dartmouth didn't want me. :)
