Martha is upstairs in the kitchen when it all breaks out. She manages to hear Elena shouting after her brother, which is what alerts her to the fact that anything's happening at all. The front door slams shut, and Martha winces and waits a moment before she steps out into the living room. It's not until after Elena has gone back downstairs that Martha follows a minute or so later to give her space ( ... )

It's not a far-fetched conclusion to reach.

Elena and Jeremy fight like any brother and sister.

They've lived there for a good chunk of time now that Martha and the others have probably witnessed some of those sibling spats. They're inescapable when you're family, and both the Gilberts are stubborn and fiery personalities in their own right. They fight when they disagree, and they can disagree often enough about a lot of things.

This time, however, Elena is as much at a loss as Martha is. There's been a lot to have him on edge, naturally. The Society concerns and the stalker that would put anyone in a mood, but she can tell it's more. There's anger there that's familiar, that has nothing to do with the frustration of Hilary or the worry about the Society ( ... )

It isn't at all, and sibling fights are simply to be expected when one takes two siblings in ( ... )

"I think he did," Elena says, sighing heavily, almost inaudibly before she steps further into the room after squeezing Martha's hand gratefully. She has no plans on invading Jeremy's privacy--she remembers the mess that came from Damon using compulsion on him and Jeremy reading her diary, but she wants to clean things up, and it would be impossible to miss the book titles and the pages that were left opened ( ... )

Jeremy stayed over at the Tower too. He sent a text message Elena to let her know that he was staying the night with Alek in turn. Jeremy didn't specify that they were staying at the Tower, because there didn't need to be that specification and it might have brought questions. The point was to postpone something that was inevitable ( ... )

Elena had been on campus, but she forgot something at the house. It wasn't anything that she absolutely needed for the day, but she's better off with the notes than without, so she made her way back over and in the process, would check to see if Jeremy's there, or if he went to school, any news at all ( ... )

Jeremy winces as soon as he sees Elena, realizing that there's really no postponing this any longer. He would love to postpone it even for a few more hours, but there's no chance of that, not as soon as she sees him. Jeremy hasn't even worked through what he'd say to explain what happened.

He just wants to go in his room and forget the last two days happened, but he cannot forget and Elena's looking at him like that, and it seriously hurts. It feels like something's pressing down on his chest. Jeremy hates making Elena look that way.

Jeremy looks away from her.

"Isn't it kind of obvious?" He shakes his head, sliding his hand down and away from his neck. The very motion hurts, and he doesn't move his hand again while he stands in front of her. "I got in a fight."

That's putting it lightly.

"With Connor, that prejudice douchebag from school, he wasn't alone. I wasn't either, but... he's an angel."

He had his whole gang of angel buddies beside him, and Jeremy started it this time.
