Betta Update!
Well, I have baby betta fry. Not from the pair I was attempting to breed a few weeks ago but actually of a higher quality. Here's a photo journal of what's happened so far.
These are the parents, I'm hoping that I get a nice quality spawn out of these two.
Male (right) courts the female (left.) Female inside a hurricane glass for protection, just in case things get nasty.
More courting, female displays vertical barring on her body that indicate her interest in mating.
Male and female under the bubble nest.
The only picture I could get of them embracing. The male wraps around the female and squeezes out the eggs, which he fertilizes and places in the nest.
It's tough getting photos of things this small! Especially when "daddy" keeps getting in the way.
Aaaand Fry! see those little black dots? that's the little fry bodies. They have teeny tiny transparent tails. Dad is doing a great job keeping them all in the nest. More updates in a few days when the fry become free swimming!
