WHO: Jason McConnell
WHERE: On the east side of Building 12 (Fire Department)
TIME OF DAY: Early afternoon
POST SUMMARY: Jason wakes up in the city, wondering why he's awake at all.
Jason knows he's dead. He has to be, but he doesn't hear anything. He's lying on his back in near complete silence. No screams of the damned, crackling fires, or even celestial choirs (though the last one is no surprise). His fist is clenched tight and his hand is sore. He's afraid to open his eyes or move, convinced that the chaos will start when he does. He relaxes his hand and feels something fall. His head jerks to the side and his eyes open. On the ground beside him is a small bottle. Jason's stomach clenches up when he thinks about what was in there and what happened. He closes his eyes and lets his head rest back on the ground.
After a few moments he opens his eyes again. All he sees at first is the sky. It's dim and grey, but doesn't look like anything he would imagine in Heaven or Hell. He sits up and looks around. He's in a patch of grass next to a building, on the side of a street, and in the distance he can see a high wall. He picks up the bottle and stands, confused, before realizing that he feels fine. Other than the sore hand, nothing is wrong. He's not dizzy, sick, or feeling bad at all physically. He tries to figure out his surroundings.
Is this Hell? he wonders. It doesn't look like any vision of Hell he's ever heard of, but maybe that's what it is. After all isolation is one thing he hates and there don't seem to be any people around. He looks again at the building beside him. A fire station. That does not comfort him at all.
He's at the edge of a street and, not having any other options, figures that he might as well take it. As he walks among the buildings, his mind wanders home. He remembers the conversation he had with Peter right before they went out on stage, their last kiss. He regrets a lot of what he did and wishes he hadn't put Peter through that, but is glad that he got to talk to Peter and let him know that he is loved. He remembers Peter talking to him as he was fading, and he's glad that happened. He knows Peter loves him and has that last proof of it.
He wonders about Nadia. What's she doing now? He knows what he did to her and that she's not going to be okay, but he knows that she'll be able to get through it. He also knows she has to be mad at him. Maybe she'll be able to forgive him eventually.
He's walked a few blocks, but he stops and slumps against a nearby building when he starts to cry. He's thinking about his sister, Peter, and everyone he left behind. Is he in Hell? If not, where is he and why? And is there anybody else here? He wants to find out, but right now he doesn't think he can go any further.
