WHO: Florence Vassy WHERE: A park near building 36 (strip mall) TIME OF DAY: Afternoon POST SUMMARY: Florence has needs. Needs only a chess board can fulfill.
Bernard is still largely in the exploration stage still, and he hasn't found the library (which there must be one of here) yet, so he doesn't have that much to do. The bar he's commandeered has plenty of alcohol, but it the food department it mostly has... well, some snacks, that's it, really
( ... )
Unlike certain grandmasters of her acquaintance, Florence was quite willing and able to tear her attention away from the board when other people were around. She looked up at the sound of Bernard's voice and turned her head, smiling happily.
"I did," she answered brightly, turning around so she could face him properly. "Just in the nick of time, too, or I would have been forced to go completely and utterly mad. How are you?"
"Fetching supplies," Bernard answers, pointing his thumb back at the cart, and shrugs, smiling back. "Crisps and alcohol, however wonderful, isn't all that filling."
"Yourself?" he asks, sitting down at the opposite side, looking down at the chess board. He expects Florence would beat him easily, all those books on chess and all that.
"No, but it sounds better then endless cans of ravioli," Florence said, wistfully thinking of beef and broccoli. "I really hope Scotty's garden takes off so I can remember what real food tastes like."
She swung back around to face the board, idly fidgeting with a pawn. "I'm doing fine. More than fine, actually, now that I found the chess."
The park was one of Lex's favorite places in the city. It was peaceful, but not in the eerie way that shrouded the rest of the city. He often took walks through it after long hours trying to work on the generators. Even now, with the power back, Lex was still trying to solve the mystery of why they wouldn't work.
But as he saw Florence and the chess board, he didn't even think before sitting down behind the Black pieces. She was one of his favorite people in the city and an afternoon in her company would help his frustration. "Would you mind an opponent Ms. Vassey?"
"I would love one, Mr. Luthor." Florence looked up at him, a challenging glint in her eye. "By all means, sit down and show me what you're capable of."
Of the people she'd met here, she couldn't help but feel a special fondness for Lex, even with the embarrassing interlude she tried hard to forget aside. Every conversation was an interesting one, and he kept her on her toes.
"I look forward to the challenge." Lex said as he waited for her opening move, strategies already flowing through his brain. His mind was set on the chess, not even straying to said embarrassing interlude. That's all it would be...if that's what Florence wanted. Lex respected her too much for anything else.
"A little stir crazy, but I've been doing fine," Florence answered as she contemplated the board, trying to decide how to start. Traditional opening or something a little more esoteric? This was always the part of the game she loved best - so many possibilities stretching out before her.
"Yourself?" She moved her knight, deciding against any innovative moves until she saw what kind of player Lex was.
