Scotty doesn't really like leaving Wendla alone, one because she's fourteen and alone in a big huge empty city, and two because he's alone in a big huge empty city and she's the only person he's found so far. Still, he thinks he should at least try to poke around and see what he can find, and it might be better if he did that alone, in case they find anything horrible.
He hears the soft voice and wonders if maybe his ears are playing a trick on him. When he hears it a second time he can feel his heart start to beat a little fast and he hurries to find the source, wandering around in half-panic, half-excitement mode until he finds him: a small, teenagery looking boy. Who seems as lost as Scotty and Wendla. Awesome.
"Hi," Scotty says tentatively, approaching the stranger. "I'm Scotty. I don't suppose you're from this city?"
While this was exactly the result he had hoped for, the fact that someone actually responded to his call left him feeling rather shocked, as evidenced by the massive jump he gave once the stranger spoke. Desperately trying to calm himself to a normal point, looking panicked and hopeless was definitely not the way he wanted this stranger's first impression to be, he put on his best face, cleared his throat, and spoke in the most calm tone he could muster. "No --"
Okay, his voice cracking on the first word wasn't exactly the way he wanted to start things. With his cheeks flushing bright red, he cleared his throat once more and continued. "Uh, no -- no, I'm not," was all he said, warily avoiding revealing the information that he had absolutely no idea where he was or how he got here. "I'm Andrew, though." And he gave a slight bow of his head, hands tucked nervously in to his pockets. "Are -- uh, are you?"
As Scotty's gaydar goes ding-ding-ding, he suppresses a smile at the voice crack; this isn't really a smiling sort of situation. Instead he works hard to keep his face very soothingly serious and he holds his hands out, taking some very slow, cautious steps toward Andrew. "I'm Scotty, Scotty Wandell, and... I have some bad news," he says apologetically, stopping once he gets a little closer to Andrew but waiting to see his reaction before he gets any closer.
"Did you just wake up here? You have no idea where you are?" he asks, giving his lip a slight bite as he waits for the answer.
Crap, was it really that obvious? He definitely didn't want to look like at all like he felt, so he tried his best to ease his shoulders down, though his hands fidgeted nervously in his pockets. Really, it was very much like that one time he got lost in the mall as a child, though this time it wouldn't end up with him bawling in the food court, screaming for his mommy.
... yet, at least.
He narrowed his eyes at the man, scanning him up and down to take in more detail: very, very gay, like.. the kind of people you see on those TV shows gay, looked nice enough, though the way he was easing in closer was kind of nerve-wracking, and... screw it, if they were the only two people here, there wouldn't be much use in trying to cover up his probably already obvious panic. "No, no idea at all... I just fell asleep in some alley-" he paused, realizing he had probably said too much. "-for a nap, right, and then... here I am in the middle of the street. What's going on?"
