Rochelle: We're here today with Sam Merlotte to explain to us what really happened Monday night when Tifa Lockheart was murdered. Mr. Merlotte, were there any unusual people at the club that night? Any sign something was off?

Sam: No. Nothin' stood out. Which is somethin' we'd been watchin' for too, 'cause we've been hassled by people before for bein' unaffiliated. It's been so frequent I've actually trained my security staff to look out for it. But that night was quiet.

Rochelle: Then it must have been even more of a shock what happened to Lockheart.

And who was it exactly that was harassing you and the club?

Sam: AGI agents. Sometimes people who "just happened" to be affiliated with 'em. Most recently they've been sendin' inspectors tryin' to catch us slippin' up. [he shakes his head] But ever since I opened the place, they've always sent someone. I can't tell you how many reports I've taken down from my managers tellin' me that someone with an AGI badge threatened 'em about closin' the place down or takin' it over or just plain makin' threats.

[he closes his eyes and nods somberly.] It shouldn't have happened. Tifa was an amazin', beautiful person, inside and out. None of us thought somethin' like this could happen. Or at least we thought we'd be ready for it.

Rochelle: [She frowns and nods with a sympathetic look back.] I can imagine.

So you think there was more foul play in her death than there already was?

Sam: That's right. This wasn't about a robbery - this was about sendin' a message, and tryin' to tear the place down, and me an' my people apart. We've got security cameras, and as a shapeshifter I've got a nose for figurin' things out. I've got no doubt on my mind who was behind Tifa Lockheart's death.

And if the police weren't bein' such company lapdogs and would actually do their damn job on this case, I'd have the evidence to prove it too.

Rochelle: And the security cameras didn't catch something?

Sam: They did. It's just nothin' I can go out and use as a private citizen, since the police aren't willin' to even acknowledge a crime took place here. A woman's murdered and a business is robbed, and they're lookin' the other way. It's fuckin' shameful.

Rochelle: Do you think they're going to up their threats from now on? I don't think you could get a stronger "leave" message than that.

Sam: [he shrugs. Beneath his determination, he looks tired.] Maybe. Maybe they're waitin' to see if this'll finally drive me out, since threats and slavery didn't work.

[his eyes go hard.] But it won't. And I can tell you that the next time they try and pull somethin' like this, they'll have a helluva lot more security to deal with.
